Immaculate Conception Center Chapel

Interior Painting & Decorating, Sanctuary Renovation, Stained Glass Restoration and Repair

Project Details

Client:
Brooklyn Diocese

Description:

In 2024 D'Ambrosio was asked to execute the complete renovation of the Chapel at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, NY.  The primary goal of the project was to relocate the Tabernacle from the Blessed Sacrament Chapel to the Sanctuary of the Chapel.  To this end, the organ was relocated from the rear of the Sanctuary to a new space in the body of the Chapel created by the modification of several pews.  The large wooden screen that had previously hid the organ and choir area was removed.  The smaller wooden screen concealing the organ pipes was modified to create two new statue niches and to create an appropriate backdrop for the Tabernacle.  A new terrazzo platform was installed to match existing flooring and a new terrazzo ramp was installed to allow for handicap access to the Sanctuary platform.  All platforms received new metal railings and existing railings were refinished to match.

The Chapel was completely repainted in a new decorative color scheme.  The corpus from the original crucifix was removed, restored, and mounted on a new millwork cross.  Stations of the cross were removed and mounted on new millwork frames which were designed and fabricated.  The large canvas murals depicting Mary and Joseph were cleaned completely.  All the wood wainscot was varnished.  Several broken sections of stained glass were removed, repaired, and reinstalled.
